Is Mantra Effective? How Does It Work?

The nature of all creation is sound vibrations. “And God said let there be light” in Genesis. Thus the smallest units of our own body-mind-spirit are sound vibrations. When we chant mantras (which are scientifically designed patterns of vibrations by great sages who knew their effects,) we attune our whole being to the divine vibrations. Different mantras assist us to remove our accumulated karma in different ways.

The highest, most effective mantra is the Gayatri mantra, particularly the long version: Om Bhu Om Bhuvaha Om Swaha Om Maha Om Janaha Om Tapaha Om Satyam Om Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dhi’mahi Dhiyo Yona’ha Prachoda’yat. This is the mantra recommended to all, whether Vishnu or Shiva or Devi worshippers. Children are initiated into it at 8 years old, the age that the ancient sages determined as being mature enough to be responsible for one’s own acts, karma. It is recommended to chant it first thing in the mornings, predawn and also at dusk, if possible. It is the only mantra to take the vibrations through the brain, keeping it healthy.

In chanting this mantra, one spiritualizes every phrase by beginning with Om. Each of the Seven Luminous Lokas are named, starting with Bhu/Earth, and simultaneously one should visualize taking our own energies (both prana and kundalini) through each chakra, including the 7th chakra, just above the head. The rest of the mantra takes us through our sun (Savitur) to Devasya, the dwelling place of the Devas/Devis (the Shining Ones,) then making our request to them to enlighten us: body, mind and spirit.

The Maha Mantra is correctly Rama first, then the line for Krishna, following their chronological appearances in the Earth plane. This is the mantra considered to be best for regular use in this Dark Age: Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare; Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare.

For healing, all Rama mantras are the best. Just chanting Rama Rama Rama . . . repeatedly will balance the currents (Ida and Pingala) in the body. Om Sri Rama Jai Rama Jaya Jaya Rama is called the Taraka Mantra, because like the Devi Tara, it takes you across the Ocean of Samsaras. This means it sands away a bit of your karma with every repetition.

The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra of Shiva defeats death and avoids accidents. It is often chanted by and for people with serious diseases. We also chant it before driving/riding in a car. It is Om Tray’ambakam Yaja Mahae Sugan’dhim Pushti Varda’nam Uvaru’kamiva Bhanda’nan Mrityor Muksheeya Mamri’tat.

There are many others for different purposes/attraction of certain energies. Lakshmi for abundance of all kinds, Saraswati for true knowledge, the arts, spiritual discipline, and Durga for protection from negativity, inner and outer. There are many Ganesha mantras for various purposes both esoteric and mundane.

All mantras ameliorate our karma. Chanting aloud is best for something you desire to manifest on Earth, including healing. Chanting silently is the most effective otherwise, because it is at the highest vibration.

Love Is The Near Surround of Which We Are a Part

The story of Rama is a story of Divine Love.  For God so loved the world that that all the divine forces combined to send us Himself in the form of Rama and his three brothers and Herself in the form of Sita to show humans how to live in Dharma.  The picture above shows the Divine Family with all 4 brothers and Sita with their protectors Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesha, Narada and Hanuman.  All creation joined to aid us.

The entire Ramayana is the story of the loving parents of the couple and and their divine children.  When Rama is grown, he reveals himself as the emanation of Vishnu and is married to Sita, the emanation of Lakshmi.  They live in love and do everything possible to help each other, no matter how terrible the circumstances.  They are aided by his brothers and Hanuman, acting in unselfish love.  All their lives, their actions make them great role models for every possible role in our lives.  They are the perfect son and daughter, perfect king and queen, perfect husband and wife, perfect parents, etc.  Their whole story is the force of the Divine in form solely out of love to help us in our lives.

Love is where we came from and love is where we’re going. It’s not something we can attain. It’s not something we can work up to, as much as something we allow ourselves to fall into! It is the living presence of God/dess within us.

The eternal Divine Flame resides within us at our Sacred Heart Chakra/Hrit Padma, no matter what kind of person we are.  Our soul,  being part of the Divine Whole and thus enlightened, is anchored there. On the days when we feel low, we can remember that we are surrounded by Divine Ones, whose only desire is to help us.  On our quest for enlightenment, we can remember that our soul is enlightened, and only the transitory parts of us, body, mind and personality, need to seek our divine love within to transform.

We have created our own karma, and we can uncreate/dissipate it by the divine tools we have been given especially for this dark era, mantra and puja. Only a half hour per day will overtime sand down a lot of karma.  We owe it to ourselves to do at least that much daily.

Tune to God’s Frequency by Swami Satchitananda

Sadguru Sant Keshavadas and Satguru Rama Mata were and are great friends of other leading gurus in India.  Namadeva Acharya used to tell a great story about being blessed by Swami Satchitananda, when the swami visited Sant Keshavadas’ ashram.  You will find the story in his book, True Stories of Personal Power, available on sanskritmantra.com as an eBook.

“The best way to clean your system is to use sound. Simply choose any holy name you like, and keep repeating it. Let your body vibrate with that frequency. In the beginning you have to concentrate on that vibration within you. But as you continue, every cell in your body will begin to repeat your mantram or your prayer; then the whole system, the whole personality, body, mind, everything will vibrate on that wavelength. The holy word is like a radio wave.

“When a mantram is given to you, you tune your personality to a particular frequency. It’s just like tuning a radio. The cosmic music that comes from God is always being transmitted; God never stops transmitting all the beautiful things. Some simply don’t tune their heart radios to the proper frequency. Instead, they tune it to the wrong frequency and get atmospheric disturbance.

“With practice, you’ll be able to tune your heart radio. You will become a good receiver. Only then is the proper communication possible. Communication brings communion. Real communion is possible only when you tune your entire personality to God’s frequency.

Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi”

Finding Your Inner Self Leads To Love

Satguru Rama Mata with Mother Teresa

If we surrender our ego to the Divine, to the satguru, to Krishna or Rama or Devi, then we are reborn as our true selves. When we shed the outer layer, then we can connect with the Divine and with others, all sentient beings. Then we feel love through the divine interconnectedness of everyone and every thing.

As Amma says, “Love is our true essence. You can only feel love by expressing it. The more you give, the more your heart is filled. Love is a never ending stream. Real love is the complete absence of any negative feelings towards anyone. Be like the honeybee who gathers only nectar wherever it goes. Seek the goodness that is found in everyone.

When love overflows and is expressed through every word & deed, we call it compassion. That is the goal of religion. Love is the only medicine that can heal the wounds of the world. If we have love and compassion in our hearts, then we will wholeheartedly serve those who suffer from lack of food, clothing and shelter. May your thoughts, words and actions arise from love. Love one another without any expectations. Then, there is no need to go anywhere in search of heaven.”
